Bathing a toddler

When it comes to bath time, my 8 year old and 8 month old are easy. My 8 year old likes to shower now that she's a "big" kid. All I'm needed for at her shower time is to get the water flowing at the right temp and to set out a fresh towel and wash cloth. She knows how to wash, condition and rinse her hair. She washes herself with soap and she does it well. My 8 month sits happily in his baby tub and loves to kick and splash while I wash him. He loves baths.

My newly turned 2 year old is a different story. Bath time is a battle with her. There are no guarantees, she loves baths one day and the very next day she is screaming bloody murder at the mention of a bath. One day she HAS to have her Hello Kitty "special" bubbles and the next day when I go to pour them in and its the end of the world. I can't keep up. When its time to wash her hair...well let's just say it doesn't go well. Baby girl does not like her hair being washed. End of story.

I have bought bubbles, washes, bath crayons, new water toys and those foam alphabet toys. All to no avail. I have had some success bathing her in the kitchen sink. She thinks its great to fill up her snippy cup with the faucet and dump it out.

Am I the only one who has toddler melt downs about baths? Any advice or suggestions that have made bath time easier or more enjoyable for your toddler? This mama is all ears!

  1. My kids have always loved baths but washing their hair is a battle. I just try to be as quick as I can.

  2. I am anxious to read everyone's suggestions as well because I don't have any! Lol. My toddler is fine for about 5 minutes then wants to jump out of the tub. I'm so nervous he's going to hurt himself even though I'm holding onto him. He doesnt quite understand yet though!
